Running a Fest of this size is no different than providing for a small community like any of those we come from. Even if we are only here for a week we need to treat the property as our own. We are in effect "stewards" of the land the site occupies. With that in mind we, at RFM, are making sure that we reduce, reuse and recycle where we can.
One area that is a major concern is the use and cost of water. Because we are on private land on a lakeside, every gallon of water used on site is hauled in and every gallon of waste is hauled out. Over the course of 5 days the costs become significant and the price of showers does not cover the expense. It is easy to take water for granted when you are overlooking Lake Minnedosa.
Therefore we are not able to offer free showers to RFM co-op members this year.
We say "Thanks for helping out" in advance and hope that each RFM Member understands and champions our mission to reduce waste, cost and the impact we have on the environment.
While we test and submit samples our water supply is not potable and should not be used for consumption unless boiled. We advise all people attending to supply thier own drinking water. Regardless of the weather it is advisable to drink adequate amounts of water. There will be vendors on site providing bottled water.
We will be providing Garbage and Recycleing services to each site again this year. As well the Ice and water/sewer services will be available throughout the weekend.
As much fun as it is to sit on a couch in a field under the Manitoba sun we would appreciate the effort to take any house hold furniture with you when you leave. The maintainance group thanks you in advance for your help returning the site to its prefest condition.
Remember...all we leave behind is footprints, memories and some dazed & confused gophers.
